Shenyang Institute of Automation

The Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) was founded in November 1958. For more than 50 years, SIA has advanced automation science and engineering, making significant contributions to society, the economy and national security. SIA’s research focuses on robotics, industrial automation and photoelectric information processing. As the cradle of China’s robotics technology, the institute has had more than 20 “firsts” in robotics development in China, making it the national leader. SIA is a comprehensive research institute. Its 10 research departments are devoted, respectively, to robotics, oceanic engineering, space automation and technology, optoelectronic technology, intelligent detection and equipment, information services and intelligent control, equipment manufacturing technology, industrial control networks and systems, autonomous underwater vehicles, and digital factories.

SIA’s major achievements include,

  • The successful experimental deployment of Qianlong-1, an unmanned autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) jointly developed by SIA and several other institutes, in the Eastern Pacific in October 2013. This marks the first time a Chinese AUV has been used in a scientific expedition. In June 2012, the manned submersible Jiaolong, whose control system was developed by SIA, reached a record depth of 7,020 meters in a sea test in the Mariana Trench.
  • In the field of rotorcraft UAVs, equipment independently developed by SIA has been widely used in power line inspection, autonomous pesticide spraying and disaster relief.
  • SIA has also made remarkable achievements in industrial wireless sensor network technology in recent years. The WIA-PA (Wireless Networks for Industrial Automation-Process Automation) specification developed under the direction of SIA was implemented in China in 2011 after being approved by the International Electrotechnical Commission in 2008.

As a key base for industrial and high-tech development in China, SIA aims to advance the domestic economy by fostering innovation. It also aims to become a leading international research institute in the field, presenting China’s outstanding achievements in robotics and industrial automation to the world.

Museum of Chinese Industry

The museum of Chinese industry, located at the south-west corner of the cross between Weigong North Street and Beiyi West Avenue, is the largest national museum of this kind. As constructed in May 18, 2011,the distinguished architecture is a combination of traditional feature and modern spirit. The first part of the museum was completed one year later, with three domains (General History, Machine Tool and Foundry) unveiled. Finished in 2013, the second part was opened with seven more domains (Metallurgy, Heavy Equipment, Automotive, Mechatronics, Hong Kong, Cars and Tiexi History). Additionally to the promotion of pavilion equipment, life areas, including Catering, Leisure, Experience and Interaction, were built up for better service to visitors.

Occupying 85 thousand square meters, the museum presents a huge picture of the whole history of Chinese industry in the past one hundred years with rich and high-quality multi-media material. The visitors can also appreciate the magnificent development history of Shenyang, the dominant industrial metropolis in the north-east of China.

The collection of the museum is opulent and over 7000. Many of the exhibits are national-graded, such as the bronze helmets and mirrors over 2000-year-old. The museum extends warm welcome to visitors from all over the world.

Besides Shenyang where you can enjoy gourmet food, local opera, museum and many other attractions, you can also take one-day or two-day tours to other cities close to Shenyang. Benxi is a prefecture-level city located in the east of Liaoning province, People’s Republic of China, south-southeast of Shenyang. It was founded as a metallurgical center in 1915. Benxi is rich with tourist attractions. The eastern side of the prefecture is covered with mountains, caves and lakes with low population, making the various parks in that area popular.Below are some beautiful tourist attractions:

1: The Benxi Water Cave National Park is a subterranean river, some 3,000 meters long, 2 meters deep and wide enough for 20-30 boats. It flowing through this cave situated 35kms (22mi) east of Benxi city. The cave is filled with countless stalactites and stone flowers, pillars and curtains.

2: Wunü Mountain National Park is an area of natural beauty. The park also contains the remains of an ancient Goguryeo capital city. As such the site has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

3: Guanmenshan National Forest Park is a valley of outstanding natural beauty. Secluded trails run up and down the valley. The area is particularly popular in autumn when the leaves of the many maple trees that line the valley turn bright red.

Dandong, previously known as Andong and Antung, is a prefecture-level city in southeastern-eastern Liaoning province, China. It is the largest Chinese border city, facing Sinuiju, North Korea across the Yalu River. To the southwest of the city, the river flows into Korea Bay. Dandong has a dynamic history because of its strategic location for the northeast’s rich natural resources and because of its convenient access to the ocean.

1: Hushan Great Wall is the most easterly known part of the Great Wall of China. About 600 meters of remains were excavated here in 1989. In 1992, a section of wall was renovated and is open to the public, forming a popular tourist attraction.

2: The Sino–Korean Friendship Bridge, Sino–Korea Friendship Bridge, or China–North Korea Friendship Bridge (renamed from Yalu River Bridge in 1990) connects the cities of Dandong, Chinaand Sinuiju, North Korea, along the China–North Korea border.

3: The “Broken Bridge”: About 60 m (66 yd) downstream from the Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge is the remains of an older bridge constructed between May 1909 and October 1911. This bridge was bombed by American aircraft during the Korean War. Four spans of the old bridge remained on the Chinese side of the river, giving it the name the “Broken Bridge” (断桥).
